Water Service Update & Precautionary Boil Water Advisory - 2/24/2025
Montgomery County Public Utilities is aware of an ongoing water issue affecting customers in the area of Windermere Point, Highway 24/27, and River Road areas due to a water line failure along Highway 73 in Mt. Gilead. Customers in these areas may experience low water pressure and possible intermittent outages as crews work to resolve the issue. We appreciate your patience during this time.
Due to these service disruptions, a precautionary boil water advisory is now in effect. Outages and periods of low pressure increase the potential for back-siphoning and the introduction of bacteria into the water system. As a precaution, the North Carolina Division of Water Resources advises that when water is restored, all water used for human consumption (drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice, and food preparation) should be boiled vigorously for one minute or bottled water should be used.
Montgomery County Public Utilities is actively monitoring the system and will lift this advisory once service is fully restored and water quality tests confirm the safety of the supply.
Discoloration and air in the water system are common after service interruptions and do not pose a health risk. Running a faucet should help clear the lines.
Please contact Montgomery County Public Utilities at 910-439-6197 if you have any questions concerning this notice.
