Increased Rabies Activity in Montgomery County, NC

May 10, 2024 – The Montgomery County Department of Health is issuing an urgent notice regarding the increased rabies activity found within the county. The rabies virus is a serious, but preventable disease that can spread from people and pets if they are bitten or scratched by a rabid animal.

We are urging all residents to take the following precautions to protect yourself and your pets:

- Refrain from contact with unknown or wild animals

- Keep your pets secured and under your supervision at all times, whether indoors or outdoors

- Vaccinate your pets to ensure they are protected from unwanted diseases

You can report a suspected case of rabies or an animal who is acting abnormally to Montgomery County Animal Services by calling (910) 576-0037.
